Key themes include identity, empowerment, Métis and Indigenous history, social justice, coming of age, blood memory, hope, and intergenerational trauma and legacy.
Katherena Vermette is a Métis writer from Treaty 1 Territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She focuses on the Métis perspective during this historical period.
Katherena Vermette is one of the authors in the 2019 graphic novel anthology This Place: 150 Years Retold, which brings the last 150 years to life through Indigenous characters and stunning full-color art. The writers represent a broad spectrum of Indigenous voices, communities and experiences.
