Alexander can't decide on a Halloween costume, so he winds up as a pumpkin; he can't decide what to wear to school, so he misses the bus; he can't decide what school lunch to eat, so he winds up with tuna casserole. Alexander's breakthrough comes on his birthday, when he asks for a sundae with everything but then realizes that chocolate swirl is all he wants. After that, Alexander finds his own decision-making style: not as deliberate as his mother or as quick to decide as his father, but somewhere in between. And when he tells his mom he wants a baby brother, he learns that sometimes "you get what you get, and that can be OK too."
About the creators
Kell Andrews writes nonfiction for adults and fiction for children. A little bit of magic helps with both. Growing up, she spent a lot of time reading, writing, drawing, and looking for treasure in the woods and on the beach.Kell holds a humanities degree from Johns Hopkins University and a master of liberal arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania. A lifelong Philadelphian, she lives with her husband and two daughters in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.
Hector Borlasca (Buenos Aires, Argentina) studied law before finding his true passion in the arts. He began his career as a graphic designer but eventually developed a unique illustration style. His work has appeared in advertising campaigns, magazines, newspapers, picture books, and textbooks in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Mexico. Until now he has been less well—known in the US, where his books include Yiddish Saves the Day (Behrman House, 2019), Big Kid Shoes (Scholastic, 2011), The Magic Words (Red Chair Press, 2012), and Trick or Treat (Golden Books, 2006).
